Selina Scores High at Maths Olympiad
Date posted: 16/11/17
We are incredibly proud of Year 11 Selina who was one of the highest scorers at the recent national Mathematical Olympiad for Girls.
1,700 girls took part in this year’s competition, which is run by the UK Mathematics Trust. Selina was awarded a Certificate of Distinction, and as one of the contestants who scored above 40 out of the 50 marks available, she also received a book prize. She will take part in further Olympiad competitions with the possibility of being selected to represent the UK in the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad or the International Mathematical Olympiad.
This is a fantastic achievement by Selina, who is still in Year 11 although the Olympiad is open to girls up to Year 13. With so much nonsense still talked about maths “not being a subject for girls”, the Olympiad is doing a great job in nurturing young female mathematicians.
