Christmas Highlights 2019

Another year has flown by at Burgess Hill Girls. The Christmas term has been a hectic one to say the least, but the Christmas spirit was as strong as ever. There is never a dull day at our school! Staff and pupils collectively join together to make each day a memorable one.

This year we kicked off the festivities with our Infant Christmas Production ‘A Very Christmas Birthday’. Our very own Nicola Hickey adapted the original nativity story to a charming comparison between old and new, set in a modern day hospital just like the Princess Royal. Check out the Facebook photo album.

The next event on the list was our annual Senior Citizens Tea Party. Our Year 11s greeted elderly guests, served them tea and coffee and put on a wonderful afternoon of entertainment. Read the full story here.

Up next was the Years 3 and 4 Christmas Production ‘Cinderella Rockerfella’. This was a fun pantomime with lots of musical numbers. The girls put on a fantastic show, certainly no ‘booing’ or ‘hissing’ from the audience on their own accord!

Friday 29th November was a busy day for the whole school. Junior School celebrated their Decoration Day where the girls made decorations to put up around the school and the Head Prefects switched on all the Christmas lights, turning the school into a Christmas wonderland. It was also a non school uniform day to raise money for Just One Tree who plant trees to combat climate change. If you haven’t read it yet, check out Phoebe’s poem dedicated to the cause here.

Then it was the start of the Christmas concerts, first on the list was the Junior School Christmas Concert. It was our Junior School Music teacher, Nicola Hickey’s, first event and she did an amazing job. The girls wowed, as always, with their musical talent and put on an incredible performance.

Next was the Senior School and Sixth Form Christmas Concert. Yet another amazing evening of entertainment, showcasing the exceptional talent we have throughout the school. David Black’s second year at running the concert proved that he is a perfect fit for the role. Findlay Forte had the whole audience singing along with ‘Fairytale of New York’. Well done to everyone involved.

If that wasn’t enough, in the last week of term there was never a quiet day. The week started with the PTA Santa’s grotto for the Junior School and Sparkly Disco which Nursery to Year 8 enjoyed throughout the afternoon and evening.

On Tuesday evening staff, students and parents made their way to St Andrew’s Church for the Whole School Carol Service. What a lovely evening for everyone to come together and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. The singing from each of the girls was truly magical and again a huge well done to David Black for putting it all together.

Wednesday welcomed the adorable Nursery Christmas Production which never fails to warm everyone’s hearts. The children, dressed in their Christmas costumes, sang Christmas songs beautifully. The little superstars made us laugh and smile with their polished acting skills. It was a very impressive performance!

And then we made it to, arguably one of the best days of the whole school year, the last day of the Christmas term. The Senior Leadership Team dressed up in their Christmas pudding, elf and tree costumes and served the rest of us a yummy Christmas dinner (cooked by our brilliant catering team). We celebrated the achievements of the term in assembly and some of the staff surprised the rest of the school with a Burgess Hill Girls rendition of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’, we’re sure that won’t be forgotten quickly.

What a jam-packed term, the holiday is well and truly welcomed after all that excitement. We would like to wish all students, parents and staff a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. See you all in 2020!
