Feathers - A Year 7 Production
Directed by Kathryn Martin

A group of 14 Year 7 students were given the amazing opportunity to work with a professional actress, Kathryn Martin, to put together and perform a short ensemble piece, ‘Feathers’ in four days.
‘Feathers’ is a short extract based on Philip Ridley’s play ‘Feathers in the Snow’. This performance was about finding new lands and discovering that war destroys beautiful things, and can leave people homeless. It was about setting up a new place to live and finding out that when you work together, you have a better chance of being happy.
We only had four days of rehearsals to develop and learn the production, which meant that we had to work extremely hard as it was such a tight time frame.
We performed the show on Friday 13th November at 7pm. We were really excited but many of us were nervous as we had no idea how many people were coming to watch us. When our cue came, we made our way round the back of the stage to the wings. It was great fun being on the stage and having a large audience.
We think that the performance of ‘Feathers’ went really well and we were so proud of ourselves for producing this play in such a short time.
Mrs Cassim, the Head of Drama said, ‘This is what Burgess Hill Girls is all about; pulling together, working as a team and coming up with hugely exciting and innovative Drama. It was fantastic‘. An audience member also commented, ‘The play was really fantastic and had a very powerful meaning behind it which really came across in this confident performance.’
