Year 10 students stepped out of their comfort zone at the Burgess Hill Girls’ ‘Pushing Your Boundaries’ Careers Conference in association with global company Roche in September 2015.
The students had the privilege of listening to motivational speakers, including business women, Rachel Kay, and BBC Sussex & Surrey Broadcaster, Sarah Gorrell who inspired the girls with their passionate and informative speeches.
Rachel is currently Managing Director for the Thales Learning & Development group which is part of THALES International group. On a daily basis Rachel’s focus is on the management and leadership of ‘Thales Learning & Development and its 70 employees. Sarah had previously worked as a reporter for BBC Cornwall where she was responsible for the late night phone in, award winning, Sony Award show which covered the South West. She currently produces and presents the BBC Sussex and Surrey Drive time Show.
Girls from Oakmeeds Community College, Warden Park and from Burgess Hill Girls, took part in some unusual activities. Some they loved, some they did not!
The activities included; buggy driving, plastering, archery, pilates, presentation skills, cake decorating, origami and a sign language workshop.
Year 10 student Cara Eckstein said “It made me realise that you should never have opinions on something before you do it. Just go in smiling and you’ll have a good time.”
