Musical Opportunity to help raise Awareness

Congratulations to Zoe W, Lower Sixth who has just been involved in singing on the track of a song called ‘Sometimes’ which was written by a well-known, successful Brighton based band called City of Ashes. The song focuses on that it is ok to feel down ‘sometimes’ and it all came about during Mental Health Awareness Week.

City of Ashes also put together a short film aimed at raising awareness of mental health amongst their fans. The video link is as follows –

Talking about the experience, Zoe said “I initially met City Of Ashes when volunteering at a festival called Butserfest in Hampshire. I was working as band liaison, which meant that I was allocated a band to ‘look after’ for the day, so I had to make sure that they were okay and in the right places at the right times. I got to experience lots of new things, including being side stage for a band that I like on the main stage, dealing with an audience member who had a drop seizure, and directing audience members away from the area, but overall, I had a great time! After the festival, I stayed in touch with the members of City Of Ashes, and was invited to the preview of their short film.

This video was part of #TheSometimesProject which has been created by City Of Ashes surrounding their track ‘Sometimes’. Part of this project has involved making a short film talking about mental health, and another is this cover that was put together by the band. I was lucky enough to be asked to sing on the track alongside 5 other musicians working on it, most of whom I had never met before this project, and probably wouldn’t have without it.

I’m so grateful to City Of Ashes, in particular Orion (vocalist/frontman) for this amazing opportunity, and to Glenn (touring guitarist) for recording, mixing and mastering the track, as well as editing the video together.

The Sometimes Project was created to support anyone struggling with mental health issues.  The song means a lot to me, and I hope that others can find the same amount of comfort in it as I and the others involved in this project have.”
