Teacher Launches New Children’s Book ‘Hooray for Knickers’

A teacher from Burgess Hill Girls has a new picture book ‘Hooray for Knickers’ on sale in bookshops across the UK.
Jill Walkinton, Head of Individual Educational Needs Support at Burgess Hill Girls Junior School, writes with her friend and writing partner, Alison Lewis, and this is their eighth book.
The book was launched to the school’s Nursery on Friday 22nd April, where the writers read the story to a gathering of eager 3 year olds. In the afternoon, the Junior School got their chance to hear the story, meet the illustrator, Deborah Allwright and take part in a practical workshop based on elements of the story.
Hooray for Knickers, according to the publishers is:
A fantastically funny madcap royal adventure from Jill Lewis and Deborah Allwright where EVERYONE ends up wearing knickers – even the King! An epic series of misheard orders leads to silliness upon silliness and a GIANT fold-out page at the end.
King Grouchy desperately wants to be friends with Prince Jolly so he invites him for a swim – everything at the palace has to be perfect! But when the King is in a bad mood his servants keep hiding and can’t hear his orders – could Prince Jolly end up with goats instead of floats and smelly kippers instead of flippers?
From some of the creators behind Don’t Read This Book, Mrs Vickers’ Knickers and The Night Pirates comes a riotous romp packed with silly rhymes (and plenty of knickers) – perfect for reading out loud.
Jill Walkinton and Alison Lewis, whose pen name is Jill Lewis, meet up every Friday in London or Sussex to write together. The pair’s other titles are: A Mum in A Million (Chrysalis Children’s Books, 2005), Coconut Jack (Egmont, 2009), Don’t Read This Book (Egmont, 2009), Something Delicious, Something Different and Something Missing (Egmont, 2013 & 2014) and Ug-a-Lug (Simon & Schuster, 2014). Don’t Read This Book won the Hampshire illustrated book Award 2009, won the Bronze prize in the Practical Pre-School Awards 2009, was shortlisted for the British Book Design and Production Awards in the Children’s Trade category 2009; the Bishops Stortford Picture Book Award and was nominated for the Kate Greenaway Award 2010.
Hooray for Knickers will be available in all major book shops and online from April 2016.
