Burgess Hill Girls celebrated in style yesterday as another impressive crop of A Level results landed. Well over half the girls gained three or more A*-B grades with over half the year group taking at least one STEM subject. An impressive 42% of all grades were A*/A, well above the national figure of 26%. More than half of all those taking A Level Mathematics were graded A* and 89% of those taking Art achieved A*/A grades.
There were 45 UCAS applications made this year across no fewer than 35 different courses, showing the diversity of interest and aspiration of the talented Upper Sixth year group. The many individual success stories further demonstrate the school’s ability to guide its students towards the right courses at the right universities for them.
Top-achieving students included Emma Clarke, a student at Burgess Hill Girls since the Nursery, who has secured a place at Durham University to read Natural Sciences. Alice Beaumont will join her at Durham to read Chemistry. Both girls gained straight A* grades at A Level. Erin Bateman will take up a place to read Chemical Engineering at Loughborough University after gaining four A*/A grades. Head Girl, Victoria Henderson will read Veterinary Science at University of Surrey after another run of A*/A grades. Alice Reffin’s straight A* grades in History, Geography and Biology won her a coveted place at London School of Economics to read History.
Jade Burnham joined Burgess Hill Girls in the Sixth Form on a scholarship. She will take up her place to read Geography at Royal Holloway with A*/A grades in Geography, Religious Studies, Art and an A* in her EPQ. Tammy Chee, who joined the Sixth Form from Garden School in Kuala Lumpar, is reading Economics at University of Toronto after gaining top grades in Economics, French, Mathematics and Psychology. Tanith Davies’ A*/A grades in Art, Mathematics and Religious Studies mean she is off to De Montfort to study her passion, Game Art, on the first industry-accredited course of its kind in the country. Ballerina and linguist Julie Chick’s top grades gained her a place at University College, London to read French and Russian. Eleanor Dalton will study Journalism at University of Westminster.
