Burgess Hill Girls recently took part in the annual Independent School Ski Racing Championships, held in Les Deux Alps from 14th – 20th December 2017. 25 schools entered, with 360 competitors, ages 9-18, competing in the Giant Slalom, Slalom and Team Parallel events. With -20 degree temperatures and challenging snow conditions the girls showed real strength in character during the races. The Junior Team (Charlotte, Tara, Mae, Georgina and Eve) were really impressive taking double Gold in the Team Events for Giant Slalom and Slalom beating the prestigious Guildford High and Wycombe Abbey to take top spot. Special mention to Georgina who took the individual gold in the U9 category for both Giant Slalom and Slalom, Charlotte who took the silver in the U12 category for Giant Slalom and Tara the bronze in the U12 category for Slalom.
The Senior Team showed plenty of determination when skiing against tough opposition. Annabel skied the race of her life in the Slalom, recording the second fastest time from over 150 competitors to take the silver medal in the Open and U16 category. The Senior Team (Annabel, Lucy, Jasmine and Amy) then all skied brilliantly to then go on and secure the Team Bronze medal in the Slalom.
Director of Sport, Suzy Clapp says “This is only the schools third year of ski racing and this success is a real testament to all the hard work and commitment the girls have shown throughout the year. I am extremely proud of all the girls who took part. They will now move their focus to the British Schoolgirls Championships in Flaine later this month.”
