Senior School student Milly Hewitt-Lock is this week starting her 3rd year of performances with elite song and dance troupe, West End Kids, which will see her take to the stage in venues from London to Manchester and beyond in a range of events supporting charities including Action for Children, Trauma Research UK and Great Ormond Street hospital.
Milly joined West End Kids in Spring 2021 after her Mum, Alyson saw an advert locally. After being inspired by videos of the troupe, Milly was instantly hooked and decided to audition.
For the past two years, Milly has been part of the elite performance Troupe and has performed all over the country. Milly said her most memorable moments include performing on the Main Stage at Chris Evans’ CarFest for an audience of over 40,000 people, appearing at BST Hyde Park, and performing in Trafalgar Square for the Mayor of London’s St George’s Day event. As well as these headline events, West End Kids perform at a lot of charity events and Milly said she always lists the Great Ormond Street Christmas parties as her favourite events, as they play and interact with the children in between performances.
Milly, who also enjoys playing netball, hockey and volleyball, spoke to us about the hard work that goes into being part of an elite dance troupe. Milly said “the biggest challenge is precision in dance and vocal stamina, but the most rewarding is thinking back on how far I’ve come since when I started performing. I’m motivated by seeing my own personal improvement and knowing that if I keep working hard, I’ll keep on improving..”
When asked about her aspirations, she said “I’d love to dance on a cruise ship and in the West End but I’d also love to act in movies or as a dancer in ‘Moulin Rouge’. Being part of West End Kids has not just given me amazing training but has also prepared me for the industry.”
Wishing you all the best for your upcoming production, Milly!
