On Thursday, November 28th, 2024, Burgess Hill Girls hosted its festive Senior Citizens Christmas Tea Party, bringing together local senior citizens for a delightful morning filled with coffee, tea, cakes, and festive cheer. The event was in partnership with Burgess Hill Town Council and hosted by the school’s Year 11 students, who worked hard to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the guests.
The morning kicked off with a friendly welcome from the students, who made sure everyone was comfortably seated at their tables. Guests were treated to an assortment of cakes, mince pies, and hot drinks, setting a festive tone for the occasion.
The entertainment was a highlight of the event, with Year 11 students performing a variety of musical numbers, including dances, the Rock Band, Christmas carols, and instrumental pieces. Everyone enjoyed singing along to the carols and clapping along to well-known pieces from Nativity. The performances brought a festive spirit to the room, and guests were overall delighted by the talent and enthusiasm of the students.
In addition to the refreshments and music, the guests enjoyed a lively game of bingo, followed by a raffle with a variety of prizes generously donated by students, parents, and teachers.
One guest shared, “I come every year, and this year was the best one yet.”
The event also provided an opportunity for the school to reflect on the importance of fostering community connections. Heather Cavanaugh, Interim Head, commented, “It was heartwarming to see our students engaging with the senior citizens of our town and spreading early festive cheer. Events like this highlight the vital role our school plays in fostering meaningful connections within the community. Not only do they teach our students the value of compassion and community support, but they also provide joy and companionship to senior members of our town who may feel isolated during this time of year.”
The event was a great success, leaving everyone looking forward to next year’s celebration. It was a lovely way to start the festive season, bringing joy and spirit to the community.
