British Science Week 7th – 16th March

Posted: 20th March 2025

An exciting week of diverse activities under the theme ‘Change and Adapt’ engaged our students across multiple year groups.

Year 7 and 8 students experienced the thrill of creating, racing and even crashing mini robots. Using Scratch-like coding software, they adapted their designs and modified their programming to complete various ‘tricks’. Discussions highlighted the real-world applications of AI technological developments.

Year 8 continued their exploration with a visit from Animazing, enjoying hands-on experiences with a wide range of animals. These interactions sparked discussions about adaptations for survival and environmental changes due to climate change. Embracing the ‘Change and Adapt’ theme, pupils researched topics of personal interest, creating posters on subjects ranging from ‘Space Pioneers’ to ‘Innovative Materials’.

Year 7 discovered the importance of transitioning from non-renewable energy resources by constructing wind turbines. Students had to carefully adapt their designs to ensure blades were positioned at optimal angles and axles could spin freely with minimal friction. Congratulations to all groups on their successful projects!

Year 9 students demonstrated true scientific inquiry across multiple disciplines. In Biology, they created model lungs focusing on alveoli adaptations and changes during breathing. Chemistry lessons involved observing fascinating chemical changes, while Physics investigations explored fruit batteries. Pupils experimented with different types of fruit and electrical circuits to generate maximum electricity.
