Evelyn Soars to New Heights in Pole Vaulting!

Posted: 27th March 2025

We are thrilled to share some exceptional news about one of our talented pupils. Evelyn, a remarkable young athlete under the age of 12, has achieved an outstanding milestone in her pole-vaulting journey.

Evelyn recently competed in her first indoor pole vault competition at Lee Valley and she smashed her personal best with an impressive jump of 2.11m!

This achievement has officially placed Evelyn 4th in the UK at U13 level this year. Even more impressively, she stands “unofficially” at number one in the UK for her age group, as she is the only girl under 12 to have jumped over 2m this year. Her results have now been officially uploaded to the British Athletics Power of 10 website.

Evelyn Pole Vault Jumping

For several months, Evelyn has been striving to clear the 2m mark, facing disappointments along the way but never giving up. We are proud of her resilience and hard work!

During the competition, jumpers began at the lowest height chosen by competitors (1.04m), increasing in 10cm increments. Evelyn started confidently at 1.54m and successfully cleared 1.94m, already significantly surpassing her previous personal best of 1.65m.

She narrowly missed clearing 2.04m, which would have placed her 9th in the U13 National women’s rankings for this year. With several more competitions scheduled over the next couple of months, we have every confidence that she will achieve this height soon.

We look forward to following Evelyn’s progress in her upcoming competitions and sharing more of her successes with our school community.

Congratulations, Evelyn! The entire Burgess Hill Girls community is immensely proud of you.
