Three of our talented students took part in acclaimed climate change production.
We are proud to celebrate the achievements of three of our exceptional students who recently participated in Glyndebourne‘s ground-breaking opera ‘Uprising‘. Daisy Hogan, Eve Turner and Amelie Earl-Hulse enjoyed being a part of this important production that addresses the climate crisis through the perspective of young people.
The opera, composed by the acclaimed Jonathan Dove with libretto by April De Angelis, featured over 100 local performers on stage and in the orchestra pit alongside professional artists. Performances took place in February and March, drawing audiences from across the region.
Year 10 students Daisy Hogan and Eve Turner performed on stage, while Year 11 student Amélie Earl-Hulse demonstrated her musical talents in the orchestra.
“The experience was definitely worth it,” shared Daisy. “It made me really think about climate change and the environment, and I would definitely do it again given the opportunity. The school is so supportive of our extra-curricular activities, so it was great to bring what we had learnt in drama at school outside the school, putting skills into practice more!”
Eve reflected on the collaborative nature of the production: “The experience taught me how to work with others in a chorus, and I really enjoyed this group opportunity to sing. It also taught me how to be patient in music rehearsals as these can be long days, but I really enjoyed working with other people from local schools.”
Amelie, who was personally invited to join the production by the conductor, added: “It was really exciting and a good experience. I learnt lots of new skills including new playing techniques and met lots of new people.”
At Burgess Hill Girls, we take pride in supporting our students both in their academic pursuits and external activities. Performing arts and drama form a crucial part of our community, providing students with opportunities to develop confidence, creativity, and collaborative skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
