This year’s Founders’ Day held for the first time at Plumpton Racecourse, was a vibrant and heartfelt celebration of the achievements, values, and community that make Burgess Hill Girls so special. Students, parents, staff, Governors, and guests gathered under summer skies to reflect on another year of excellence and growth, and to celebrate the young women at the heart of our school.
The day was especially significant as it marked the first Founders’ Day address from our new Head, Mrs Heather Cavanagh, who is no stranger to our community. In her inspiring speech, Mrs Cavanagh spoke of a changing educational landscape, the distinctive power of girls-only education, and the boldness our students show every day. She shared powerful reflections on the role of collaboration, the transformational impact of confidence, and the importance of nurturing each girl’s individual spark.
The occasion was a chance not only to celebrate academic success but also to recognise courage, creativity, and compassion – the values we champion daily. Our departing Upper Sixth students were recognised for their resilience and successes, and we send them off with heartfelt best wishes as they embark on the next stage of their journeys. To discover where our students are headed and what they studied during their time in the Sixth Form, we encourage you to explore our Founders’ Day Achievements Booklet.
We warmly invite all parents and members of our community to read Mrs Cavanagh’s full Founders’ Day speech, which captures the heart and vision of our school so beautifully.
