Rotary Youth Speaks Competition

Posted: 19th November 2025

We were proud to host this year’s Rotary Youth Speaks Debating Competition – and even prouder to celebrate double success, with our teams winning both the Intermediate and Senior categories against Burgess Hill Academy.

Throughout the event, students impressed the audience with confident, well-structured arguments on a wide range of motions, including:
👉 Whether students should be allowed to use the toilet during lesson times
👉 If Britain should return all colonial artefacts to their country of origin
👉 Whether we should introduce a midweek day off
👉 If Barbie is a negative influence on girls

Each debate was delivered with energy, precision, and excellent timing, showcasing the students’ research, reasoning, and outstanding oracy skills. Competitions like this demonstrate the immense value of debating in helping young people build confidence, communicate clearly, and understand different viewpoints.

A huge thank you to Burgess Hill & District Rotary for organising such an inspiring and enriching event for local students.
