As you might expect, due to COVID-19, the 2020 summer term has started a bit differently at Burgess Hill Girls. We are very proud of the way all our pupils have approached the new programme of e-learning, especially our boarders, logging in to Google Classroom or Edmodo from all over the world.
For the benefit of new boarders, parents and guardians we thought it might be helpful to summarise our current approach to e-learning.
- Years 7 and 8 are continuing with core subjects taught discretely: English, Maths and Science (which will include Computer Science and Design Technology). Modern foreign languages will also set separate tasks. The humanities (History, Geography, Religious Studies) subjects are being taught together initially and for the creative subjects we are setting weekly mini-projects. We have consolidated the humanities, languages and creative subjects to give greater opportunity for cross-curricular learning and also give pupils one point of contact for each, in order to maintain the personalised approach to feedback.
- Years 9, 10 and L6 are continuing their summer term curriculum.
- There are also physical education (P.E.) and wellbeing hubs.
- All pupils will continue to have regular contact with their individual tutors.
Though these plans might continue for the rest of the summer term we are optimistic that the new school year in September 2020 will start as normal with all our boarding community back in residence. However please be assured that we will continue to be flexible in our approach to boarding families. We will also continue to uphold our extremely high standards of cleanliness and put the safety of our boarding community first in all aspects of boarding life at Burgess Hill Girls.
Finally, for current pupils who are missing the school and new pupils who might have missed a chance to visit, below are some video messages from Mrs Beels, Head of Silverdale Boarding House, and Miss Donson, Assistant Head Pastoral & Boarding.
We wish you were here!
