Are you someone who enjoys working outdoors in all seasons, takes pride in maintaining beautiful landscapes, and understands the importance of safe, well-kept grounds? We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Assistant Grounds Person to join our dedicated Estates Team at our thriving independent boarding school.  This is an entry level role as full training will be provided.

About the Role

As Assistant Grounds Person, you will help ensure our extensive grounds – including sports pitches, gardens, and green spaces – are maintained to a high standard throughout the year. Your work will play an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and well-presented environment for our pupils, staff, and visitors.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys practical outdoor work, has a good eye for detail, and is committed to health and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain lawns, sports pitches, and landscaped areas across the school grounds.
  • Carry out routine gardening tasks – mowing, hedge cutting, strimming, weeding, pruning, and planting.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining sports facilities and outdoor event areas.
  • Operate grounds equipment and tools safely and responsibly, using PPE as required.

What We’re Looking For

  • A team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Some experience of grounds or garden maintenance is desirable.
  • A basic understanding of grounds machinery and health and safety practices.
  • Physically fit and happy to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
