At Burgess Hill Girls, we are always keen to forge close relationships with the schools in our local community and on Friday 4th October, Burgess Hill Girls Prep School hosted a fun football festival for U10’s. We were joined by Birchwood Grove Primary School, Ditchling (St Margaret’s) Church of England Primary School, The Windmills Junior School, Oak Tree Primary School and Burgess Hill Girls Prep, the football festival was a fun programme for children starting to play football.
Teams played in a round robin style, playing games against each other in pool stages. After this, teams had a final game against the school that finished in the same place. Each team had the opportunity to play each other and were given a point for winning their match. For teams not playing, players had the chance to take part in the “fun zone”, organised and led by the Year 6 girls at Burgess Hill Girls’ Prep school. All the girls loved taking part in these games from the sideline, focussing on their dribbling skills as well as speed and agility.
The teams played exceptionally well and it was a pleasure to watch the girls enjoying playing football together. There was some brilliant football on display but a special mention for The Windmills Junior School’s team, who won every match played!
At the end of the festival, the girls came together for the prize-giving ceremony; Burgess Hill Girls provided participation cerificates for all players, as well as Bee-themed prizes for the stand-out player in each team and for fun zone winners. There was lots of excitement when the Burgess Hill Girls mascot, Queen Bee, made an appearance to congratulate the girls on a successful afternoon.
Mrs Johnson, Burgess Hill Girls Head of Prep PE said:
“Some strong performances on the field, all the girls got stuck in from the start. Some excellent teamwork displayed and as always at Burgess Hill Girls, a whole school atmosphere with Nursery, KS1 children and 6th formers cheering the girls on during the afternoon. Special thank you to our two sixth form football referees for helping with all the games in the sunshine.”
Thank you to the schools who joined the Burgess Hill Girls U10 Football Festival and made it one to remember!
