Scholars Impress at Academic Presentation Evening

Posted: 9th February 2026

Burgess Hill Girls Scholars showcased their academic curiosity, creativity, and confidence at this year’s Scholar’s Presentation Evening, held in Croft 2 Performance. The event brought together more than sixty parents, students, and staff, all eager to see the culmination of weeks of research, collaboration, and intellectual exploration.

Across two presentation sessions, separated by a short interval, Scholars delivered an inspiring range of talks spanning diverse academic fields. Each group or individual had selected a challenging question of their choice—one that allowed them to explore contrasting arguments and ultimately reach a thoughtful conclusion. From scientific investigations to philosophical debates, and from global issues to creative interpretations, the breadth of topics demonstrated the impressive academic independence of our Scholars.
Parents were full of praise for the evening, commending not only the confidence and clarity with which the students presented, but also the depth of detail and originality within their research. The enthusiastic feedback reflected the hard work each Scholar invested throughout the project. “I was incredibly proud of all the Scholars,” said the programme lead. “Their commitment, creativity, and intellectual ambition were evident in every presentation.”The aims of the project extended well beyond the event itself.
Over the course of the term, Scholars took part in a structured programme designed to strengthen their reasoning, research, and essay‑based skills. Early sessions focused on building strong research foundations, including how to identify reliable and relevant sources. Scholars then learned how to refine their initial ideas into focused, impactful questions suitable for an engaging 5–6 minute talk. Additional guidance offered practical tips on designing eye‑catching visual presentations and delivering talks with confidence, clarity, and audience awareness.
Collaboration played an important role in this year’s programme. Many Scholars chose to work in cross‑year teams, giving younger and older students the opportunity to learn from one another. Creativity was strongly encouraged throughout, and students were equally welcome to complete their projects independently if they preferred. The result was a wide-ranging set of presentations that reflected the varied strengths and passions of the Scholars themselves.
The Presentation Evening also marks the starting point for the Scholars’ next academic challenge. Over the coming term, they will turn their attention to an internal or external essay competition, offering another opportunity to apply and extend the skills they have developed. Alongside this, the school will continue its Scholar’s Talks series, which invites members of the school community to deliver fascinating talks open to both Scholars and non‑Scholars. Scholars will also be encouraged to prepare and deliver their own talks as part of the evolving programme.
The evening was a celebration of intellectual curiosity, academic discipline, and the joy of learning—values at the heart of the Burgess Hill Girls Scholar’s Programme. Our Scholars should feel immensely proud of what they achieved, and we look forward to seeing where their curiosity leads them next.
