Founder’s Day 2026

Posted: 15th July 2026

Burgess Hill Girls came together to mark a very special Founders’ Day this year, celebrating the achievements, progress and personal growth of students across the Prep, Lower, Senior and Sixth Form schools during our landmark 120th anniversary year.

The day began with our Prep and Lower School Founders’ Day ceremony, where students were recognised for their academic excellence, creativity, sporting success, musical talent, personal development and commitment to the school community. From Endeavour Awards and subject prizes in the Prep School to Academic Achievement, Progress and Special Awards in Lower School, the celebrations highlighted the many ways our girls have challenged themselves, supported one another and embraced opportunities throughout the year.

As Head, Heather Cavanagh reflected in her address, Founders’ Day is an opportunity not only to celebrate achievement but also the confidence, resilience and optimism that enable our students to thrive in an ever-changing world. These values, rooted in the vision of the school’s founders in 1906, remain at the heart of a Burgess Hill Girls education today.

In the afternoon, our Senior School and Sixth Form community continued the celebrations with an awards ceremony recognising outstanding academic attainment, personal progress, dedication to subjects and exceptional contributions to school life. Students were honoured across a wide range of disciplines, reflecting the breadth of talent and ambition that characterises our school community.

A particularly emotional part of the day was the opportunity to celebrate and bid farewell to our Year 11 and Year 13 students as they prepare for their next exciting chapter. We recognised not only their achievements in the classroom but also their leadership, kindness and positive impact on the life of the school, knowing that we have delivered on our mission to develop ‘Tomorrow’s Women’.

For our Upper Sixth leavers, Founders’ Day provided a moment to reflect on a remarkable journey. This year’s cohort has secured places and opportunities across an impressive range of universities, courses and pathways, from Physics, Engineering and Economics to Fine Art, Geography, Business and Creative Computing. Their diverse aspirations are a testament to their individuality, ambition and determination.

As we celebrate 120 years of Burgess Hill Girls, Founders’ Day reminds us that success takes many forms. Whether through academic excellence, creative expression, sporting achievement, personal growth or service to others, our students continue to embody the spirit of our founders by approaching the future with confidence, courage and purpose.

Congratulations to all our prize winners and to every student for their hard work and commitment throughout the year. We are immensely proud of all you have achieved and look forward to seeing what comes next.
