Duke of Edinburgh Training weekend

Posted: 22nd March 2017

On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th March, 33 Year 10 students had their first taste of the Duke of Edinburgh expedition section as they started their training ready  for their practice and assessed expeditions in the Summer term. Over the course of the weekend they learnt how to use the Trangias (stoves) and cooked themselves a ‘delicious’ meal for lunch. They also experienced first aid training as well as how to correctly pitch tents, pack rucksacks and acquired some useful map skills.

Navigation was the main theme on Sunday when they put their new map skills to the test with a 5 mile walk around the surrounding area.  All students did very well with, despite being chased by some ponies in a nearby field.

It was a very full and exhausting weekend for all, but the girls did well and are now set for their practice expedition on 6th and 7th May 2017.
