Children generally associate books with the warmth and security of snuggling comfortably with a caring adult who shares the mutually enjoyable experience of hearing a favoured story. Therefore books are soon associated with affection, comfort and entertainment. When children join Nursery settings, shared book experiences provide useful social interactions. The correlation is perfect; the more opportunities they have to explore story-telling in different forms, the greater their interest in future reading will be. Listening to stories boosts children’s oral language and vocabulary, develops their concentration and listening skills as well as promoting their critical thinking.
