Musical Success at the Opera

Posted: 20th April 2017

Congratulations to Lower Sixth student, Nell S for her recent musical achievements.   She has recently successfully auditioned for an opera at Glyndebourne, ‘Belongings’, that will be on in November.  These auditions took place in February at Glyndebourne over 2 days with over 200 people taking part.

‘Belongings’ is a newly commissioned opera by Lewis Murphy (Glyndebourne’s Young Composer-in-Residence) with a libretto by young up-and-coming writer Laura Attridge which explores the theme of child migration. Its world premiere at Glyndebourne in November 2017 will mark 20 years of Glyndebourne’s Youth Opera with a performance company of 9 to 19 year olds.

“I am very excited and honoured to be taking part in the production of “Belongings” and look forward to singing in the beautiful theatre at Glyndebourne again. Always a privilege and a wonderful experience” said Nell when asked about her recent achievement.

This follows Nell’s previous opportunity to sing at Glyndebourne.  In October 2016, Nell was one of only eleven 16-25 year olds chosen from over 400 auditionees to take part in their prestigious Solo project.
