We are getting excited about our Senior School Book Week which will run between the 26th February and the 2nd March. This year our focus will be ‘empowering young women’.
The highlight of Book Week will be a visit from Young Adult (YA) author extraordinaire, Holly Bourne (below). Winner of the Southern Schools Book Award, the YA Book Prize and a judge in the 2017 BBC Young Writer’s Award. Holly’s numerous novels inevitably include strong young women – fantastic role models for our girls.
Throughout the week to encourage a love of reading for pleasure, we will be holding a Ready Steady Read event, organised in conjunction with the publishers Usborne. The idea will be that during the duration of Book Week, the girls will ask to be sponsored by friends and family to read as much as they can during this time both in and out of school. The money raised by the girls will be used to purchase books for the school.
Events during the week
Monday, 26th February Holly Bourne (above) will be speaking to Years 7, 8, and 9 about some of her novels which cover issues such as peer pressure, gender roles and mental health. A selection of Holly’s books will be available after her talk.
Wednesday, 28th February As an educator and Hand-In-Hand parenting instructor, Anna Cole (left) will be talking to girls and parents about supporting positive self-esteem, body image and good choices for girls.
Thursday and Friday 1st and 2nd March The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) will be holding a book and DVD sale of all reserve stock. All proceeds will be donated to charity.
