On the 13th of April, Year 9 went on a team challenge to Covent Garden, Rosie and Florence have kindly shared their version of events as the day unfolded. Thank you girls.
We all took part in a challenge day which was an excellent opportunity to develop our independence and teamwork skills. The challenge included numerous questions about the area we were located in based around the history of Covent Garden. Did you know that there are four lanterns in central market? These questions not only extended our previous knowledge, but also taught us skills in navigation and prioritisation.
We had to buy a present appropriate to give to someone that has never visited the busy city of London. We had a variety of gifts ranging from umbrellas to model double decker buses. Another challenge was to find a street performer and get their autograph, this tested our interpersonal skills as we had to approach confidently when talking to the people of London. As a group we had the task to buy and write a postcard to our head, Mrs Laybourn, this allowed us to be creative and share some of the knowledge and events we were faced with.
After this action packed morning full of competitive spirit, we were given the independence to go off in small groups to find lunch. This allowed us to evaluate and compare experiences with members of other groups. After this we were given the time to explore the shops of Covent Garden, the highlight of the afternoon being the free coke stand, which many of us walked past numerous times!
Sadly, our time in Covent Garden came to a close, but the excitement didn’t stop. A few of the groups had an impromptu fitness session running through London to catch the train. Luckily most of us made it, thankfully even the ones who didn’t, arrived back at school safely.
Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day and experience. We all learnt a lot about each other that we didn’t know before, but most importantly we learnt a lot about ourselves.
