On Wednesday 27th November, we kicked-off the start of our 2019 festive season with a tea party for local senior citizens, organised in partnership with Burgess Hill Town Council.
Pupils from the school greeted the guests on arrival, hanging up their coats, directing them to their tables, taking their orders and serving them tea.
Once everyone was seated they were entertained with a quiz and a variety of performances from the girls including modern dance, Christmas readings, piano and guitar solos. As befitting the season, the girls sang a selection of Christmas carols with everyone joining in with gusto! Next it was time for the raffle, organised by Year 11 pupils with prizes donated by pupils and teachers at Burgess Hill Girls.
Unfortunately the afternoon was over to soon, but all the guests were delighted to receive their leaving gifts of Christmas cards and decorations made by Year 7 pupils.
Josie Davies, 69 from Burgess Hill, enjoyed the afternoon very much, “the food was delicious and the entertainment was very professional and performed by such talented young people. We were most impressed by the polite attentiveness of the students who served and looked after us.”
Burgess Hill Girl Head Liz Laybourn also commented, “We love to host the Senior Citizens’ Christmas party. Our guests have done so much for the local community over the years it is a wonderful opportunity for us to give a little back.”
