Interview with Anah – first BOLD Award recipient

Posted: 12th September 2023

The BOLD Award  is a fully funded place at Burgess Hill Girls Sixth Form available exclusively for state school students.

The first ever recipient was Anah Zakeer. She joined us from Millais in 2021 and has just completed her studies at Burgess Hill Girls. Having secured two A* and an A, Anah will study Psychological and Behavioural Sciences at the London School of Economics.

We caught up with her to learn more about her experience of Burgess Hill Girls. There is a full transcript of the video below.

Hi, my name is Anah Zakeer and I’ve just finished my A Levels at Burgess Hill Girls.

I achieved an A* in Psychology and an A* in History and an A in Biology and later this month I will be starting at the London School of Economics to read Psychological and Behavioural Sciences.

I started at Burgess Hill Girls Sixth Form from Millais as the first recipient of the BOLD Award. The BOLD Award is a fully funded scholarship place at the school, specifically targeted towards those from state school backgrounds.

The last two years that I have spent here have easily been the most formative of my life.

The experiences and resources that the school have provided have made me realise how much opportunity is out there.

My teachers have been so wonderful and supportive in advising and helping me get to where I want to go, and the friends that I have made and the people that you are surrounded with are some of the most intelligent, hard-working and unfailingly kind people and I am extremely grateful that I got to spend the last two years with them.

So overall, if you’re considering taking on a place at Burgess Hill Girls, or considering applying, I would one hundred percent say just go for it! You’ve got nothing to lose, and possibly everything to gain.
